**NEWS** A little taster of greatness to come **NEWS**

November 8, 2009

I found this while perusing 1up.com earlier, and reading the story of one lucky guy who played a brief demo (hey, a demo’s a demo!) – I’d be seething with jealousy if I wasn’t so damn excited by the article, which you can read in full here (along with 2 other videos!)

Overdue Review: Mass Effect

November 1, 2009

mass-effect-643

Wow.I may struggle to be coherent in this review, since I still feel slightly blown away since finishing the game yesterday, but if all else fails, and you give up reading my ramblings, remember one thing – this may, quite possibly, be the best game I’ve ever played.

I bought this game ages ago, and kept meaning to get to it, but never quite got there.  Until Tuesday that is…  I thought I’d give it a go in preparation for Mass Effect 2′s upcoming release, and around 55hours of gameplay later, I am well and truly sold on the Mass Effect franchise.  In a nutshell, it’s ace. 5 Minute Review: Brutal Legend Demo

October 18, 2009

Brutal LegendThis has been pushed really hard of late on tv over here, so I thought I’d download the demo of Brutal Legend and give it a go, see if it was worth all the hype.  I have to admit, I was quite looking forward to it.  I do like a lot of Jack Black’s stuff, and thought this looked quite funny and entertaining from the adverts, so I had pretty high hopes.  I now feel a bit like I do when I come out of an overhyped film – it just didn’t live up to its promise.  Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t all that.

Read on to find out why, this time around, Mr Black just didn’t scratch the itch… Read the rest of this entry »

Civilization Revolution for Xbox

September 17, 2009

civ rev

Civilization Revolution has been a bit of a phenomenon lately, people are talking about it all over the net, playing it on every available console and comparing it to other world building games, and I have been no different, but I thought I would take my enjoyment of this game to the next level, step it up a notch, and take it to a ‘proper console’.  Don’t get me wrong, I still like the convenience of being able to play it anywhere on my iPhone, and it is really good fun and really well done, but let’s be honest, no-one really considers iPhones as a gaming console.  Do they?

So, I was trawling the highlights of XBL Marketplace and suddenly I find myself face to face with the game that has been monopolising my time and destroying my iPhone battery life, and I think to myself “what the heck, it’s gotta be worth the money!”  ($29.99 if memory serves…) so read on to see whether or not my Xbox experiences have lived up to the promises of the iPhone port… Read the rest of this entry »

5 Minute Review: Magic: the Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers

September 15, 2009

magic-the-gathering-duels-of-the-planeswalkersOver at backfortwoseconds.com you can catch a very detailed, and very interesting, full review of this game, however, here I plan on giving a briefer, and far less experienced point of view on whether or not Magic: the Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers could be the Trading Card Game to win over us newbies to the genre…

I will confess that before being bullied ( ;) ) into spending 1000 MSPs on this game I was indeed a TCG virgin.  I never got the whole Pokemon thing when I was younger (other than thinking Squirtle had a pretty cute name) and Yu-Gi-Oh completely passed me by.  However, within moments of purchasing this game, I was flying through the campaign mode, and indeed careered past Mr McBoob himself, despite his veteran TCG status and his being the person to recommend the game in the first place… ;)

Read on to see why, even if you haven’t ventured here in the past, DotP may be the TCG for you…
